Important information Only the property owner or a person authorized by the property owner can request extra bins, change bin sizes, remove bins, request new service, or cancel service.

Garbage bins belong to the property. If you're moving, leave the bins at the property.

Steps to getting or removing a garbage bin

Step 1: Choose the right size

How much garbage does your household create by collection day? If your bin is always filled to the top, consider a larger bin or an extra bin. Important information Dimensions may vary with the make and model of cart.

Annual rates are billed to your property taxes for garbage bin collection. When flat-rated utility services change after the annual utility or main property tax bill, we will recalculate the charges prior to the next annual billing. This may result in a new bill being issued.

Step 3: Label your bin

When you receive your new garbage bin, write your address with a permanent marker in the white space on the lid and record the serial number which is located on the front of the bin. Information icon Bins are considered permanently damaged and not reusable if they are marked outside the designated white space on the lid. When marking your bin, stay within the white area.

Step 4: Maintain your bin

Bins are the property of the City of Vancouver, and must remain usable at all times. However, it is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain their bin and keep it clean. Replacing damaged bins increases the cost of service for all customers.
